Born in 1961, Donagh Carey is a native of West Cork, and grew up in Drimoleague. He moved to Dublin in the late seventies where he worked in advertising as an illustrator/designer. He is self-trained and worked in many disciplines from airbrush to 3D prop construction. His last position was art director with Campaign HTDS in Clonskeagh.

Donagh also has a great interest in architecture and has designed numerous buildings including Marina House in Dunlaoghaire and a contemporary mews in Rathmines.

He moved to Schull three years ago and intends to continue to develop artistically. With styles varying from photo realism to abstract, Donagh retraces the paths of his childhood, recording the derelict farmhouses, villages and dramatic seascapes that have shaped his life. He has a permanent exhibition of landscapes in the Blackrock Clinic.
