Another Tuesday

A Solo Show by Artist Jack Hickey

Jack HIckey graduated, with honours, from Crawford College of Art & Design in May 2011 winning both the Eli Lily & OPW Purchase Prizes and has garnered much critical acclaim in the months that have followed, with the Sunday Times, Irish Times & Irish Examiner each publishing outstanding reviews of his work.

His wonderfully executed paintings capture an elusive aspect of modern human relationships; illuminating the emptiness and the inherent lack of communication between different people. The open space in the work represents the distance between individuals, the unsaid and the unrequited. It is an example of the void inherent in a modern, socially fractured world, where true human contact has become illusive, almost impossible. They strive to show the hole at the centre, the empty room within, the point where unease begins.

“Another Tuesday” is a new body of work that is a deeper exploration of these themes and issues which he first addressed in his degree show in June 2011. The canvases display a high level of skill and technique, coupled with a central concept and range of ideas that allows for interpretation and interaction to be central to the viewer’s experience. In these intensely atmospheric works the artist invites the public to experience and extrapolate their own meaning from his world of precise painting coupled with ambiguous narrative structure.
