Cork based Kevin Callaghan is an honours graduate of Crawford College of Art & Design. He has been studying ceramics for eight years and in addition to his degree he completed, with a distinction, the internationally acclaimed ceramic skills and training course at the Crafts Council of Ireland in Kilkenny. Most recently he was awarded the Frank Ryan Travel Bursary Award by the Institute if Designers Ireland which funded his residency at the Experimental Sculpture Factory and Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China, the porcelain capital of the world. Kevin's time in China had a profound effect on his current work which carries the theme he calls "Transmigration of East and West". Through this transmigration he explores the transcendence of cultural limitations of both east and west. Of his work Kevin says he has begun to "mirror the spirit of Chinese architecture in a contemporary context.
Kevin's work has been exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and forms part of many public and private collections including the Ceramics Museum, Jingdezhen, China and the Office of Public Works, Ireland.
